It has been brought to my attention that a few of you are missing my posts.

This week has found me adjusting to the discomfort of the last filling of color ( yes, I am American by birth..don’t hold it against me..hold something else! )of my back body piece ( tattoo) of a beautiful 13″ Geisha with beautifully detailed kimona, apparently a high ranking Geisha in a non licensed brothel district in Japan in the 1700′s…she is in essence “watching my back”.

An evening with Geisha and high ranking courtesans was an all night affair with food, conversation, dance, music, song,entertainment on so many levels besides sex.

Geisha and courtesans supported many staff beneath her, the household, and they had no personal life as we see it, they were ‘owned’ by the client and totally depended on by her staff, constantly pressured to keep her own personal feelings out of the equation.

Women at that time in history as a rule were not allowed to own property or be educated. Courtesans at that time in Europe were the only women to enter libraries as they were to keep conversation of the day flowing with the company they kept.

The artist of choice for this piece, did he deliver,chop and all,( call me for his name ) both art and pain…basically in his words no pain no gain, and no respect for the art without pain….oh, boy…! Five hours of steady drilling ( 2 sittings). I think he has to be a bit sadistic to inflict such pain willingly and me a suck for taking it.

I guess if you want something bad enough….

In the winter I had caught an exhibit of original Japanese scroll paintings, mostly from the 1600′s and 1700′s, at the Rom an exhibition duly called “Drama and Desire“. It was amazing how clear and delicately done the pieces were and the details were soooooooooooo tiny, every hair, every fold.

The gift shop was selling the book related to the show. The Geisha I picked, after much perusal, was one of 3 …Moon, Flowers, Snow, mine being Snow. You have to see it to believe it.
