The costumes were not necessarily accurate but they flowed and moved with grace, reminiscent to the forefront at least, of this seemingly gentle time period where Geisha were to be seen as such fluid creatures , unbeknownst to the public, what really went on behind the scenes.

The first half was slow and somewhat infantile with the language of ‘yor, the simplistic set design and pallid colour scheme not helping much and with, an outstanding I must say,lead female role played by a woman not Japanese, not even remotely.

However, the second half burst forth with renewal and drama, the timing in certain poignant parts perfect, the silence deafening when she waits for the fruitless return of her husband etc. etc.

These days to even bask in the pure joy of a live orchestra and sound bellowed out with no accoutrements, just pure acoustics is worth the money in itself. My eyes welled at the sensitivity and kept my mind after the fact wandering with rabid thoughts, reliving singular moments, as one does after a performance that touches you one way or another.
